START-UP STORE MANAGER, Minneapolis, MN

We're in search of a resourceful self-starter with plenty of hustle, who thrives in a start-up environment. You love a challenge and can make things happen. You have a creative eye and demonstrated skill in quilting, sewing and community. You will direct all start-up store operations, including the implementation of a new point of sale system. You’ve managed in an independent retail environment and love developing sales and marketing campaigns to increase profitability. Adept at using technology tools, you get social media and e-commerce and can build sales strategy around them. Team management, excellent people skills and strong business acumen are a must. This position reports to the Board of Directors.

REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in business, store management, retail buying or related subject area: OR equivalent work experience

  • 3-5 years management and supervisory experience in one or a combination of the following fields; retail sewing, quilting or fabric industry, small business management, retail management

  • 3 years demonstrated experience quilting and sewing

  • Experience with startup business operations

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Demonstrated strong technology skills including Microsoft Office Suite, point of sale systems e-commerce websites, email campaigns, social media marketing tools

  • Experience interpreting financial statements and building sales/pricing strategy

  • Experience communicating with or reporting to a board of directors

  • Proven ability to make decisions and operate in an ambiguous and ever-changing environment

  • Strong interest in quilting, sewing and fabric arts

 PREFERRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • Fabric and sewing sales and buying experience
  • Experience operating an independent (not a chain) retail store
  • Familiarity with point of sales (POS) systems and implementation
  • Experience working at a cooperative or familiarity with cooperative business models
  • Fundraising or membership program experience
  • Experience training, managing and motivating teams
  • Shopify or other web-based e-commerce/online sales experience
  • Experience planning email marketing and social media campaigns
  • Personal and professional values that align with cooperative businesses
